Get Your Kids Excited About Teeth

Sometimes getting children to do simple things can be challenging.  Like those times you just want your toddler to put a jacket on & it is full on melt down madness. Brushing teeth can sometimes spark mini melt downs too.

Toddlers & Preschoolers- Positive reinforcement is still to be the best tactic. Creating charts with check offs or stickers can motivate this age group, especially if there is a little prize at the end of the month if they stick to it. I found a great printable chart online.

School aged-This is usually the age kids have more awareness of how the look, & how other people see them. For my patients around this age, reinforcing how neglecting your oral health can change the look of your teeth & smile can have a big effect. Teach your children the proper way to brush and make it part of the morning & bedtime routine. Let your child understand that in your home you all brush your teeth to stay healthy. Make them a part of it!

There is an article in Parenting magazine that has great tips on motivating children to do tasks they are resisting.
